Fall Failure

OK...I'm clueless how to do Stickies, but this EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT! will be reposted at the top of my blog on every entry until August 26th:

Did you know that the wonderful new website The Long and Short of it is giving away a whole BagFULL of Books (and then some!)???????????

Run on over there and check it out immediately, because you too can enter to WIN! Besides that, you'll find a great new website to add to your favorites!

Why are you still here? Which part of "FREE books" don't you understand? GO NOW!!!

But be sure to come back afterward, 'cause I have stuff to say and you'll want to read it!

**********************************************************************************************

I can tell that Fall is approaching. It is not the cooler weather (though we've had a coupla mild frosts already). It is not the slightly shorter days. It is not the ripening apples or the emptiness of the berry bushes.

It's my inner alarm clock.

All summer long - when I have no regular schedule and can occasionally sleep-in without guilt, I wake up SPROING! at 5 stinkin' 30 AM.

Now...not so sproingy!

It crept up insidiously. First, I diligently set the clock for 6:00AM and always woke up cheerfully ("Cheerfully" would be the operative word here) well before the alarm went off. Then I was waking up only 5 or 10 minutes before the alarm. A week or two later it was the alarm itself that was arousing me.

"I'm Renee Montagne and I'm Steve Inskeep and THIS is Morning Edition on NPR: National Public Radio."

And now? Now the alarm goes off and yesterday I drowsed through an hour of NPR before I truly woke up enough to actually climb out of bed. Today I only listened to 6.5 minutes of news and then FORCED myself to get up.

This does not bode well for our school schedule!

The current plan, which shall be (cough!) implemented next Monday runs as follows:

6:00AM Get-up, read Bible, eat fruit and drink soymilk

6:45AM Work out

7:00AM Shower

7:30AM Get Girlies up

Well, it's 7:30 now and the girls are NOT up and I haven't eaten anything except water and coffee and I'm groggy and I obviously haven't exercised yet.

Looks like I'll either have to revamp the plan, or revamp the body!

I was trying to change my template to more fallish colors, but Blogger apparently doesn't like my artistic bent.

Groovy: "Let's see...I think I'll try to pull in some oranges and reds and yellows."

Evil Blogger: "No red! You must keep the blue."

Groovy: It's my blog, and I don't WANT the blue.

Evil Blogger: blue, Blue BLUE!!!

Groovy: Stupid Blogger!

Evil Blogger: Na-na-na-na-na!

It's only letting me save SOME of the changes. So now I'm stuck with a weird combo of the old and the new.

Evil Blogger: Heh-heh-heh!

And, no...the girls still aren't up and yes, I am going to make a commercial today for my Procrastination Destination lens on Squidoo.

Hi! Oh I'm so glad you made it. I wasn't really sure if anyone would come in this Maine snowstorm!

Here, Kick your boots off into the mudroom and let the girlies take your coat for you. Would like a drink? I've got some filtered water, wonderful coffee and a variety of teas; Take your pick!

Um, yes...It is rather dark in here, isn't it. I thought the candles would set an intimate and relaxing tone for our get together. (Translation: I've been sick all week, so the house is dirty and I don't want you to see the dust!)

You'd like a tour of the house? Oh. Ok....

This is is my monstrously huge kitchen/dining area. It is my biggest blessing because it is so roomy and party friendly. I have had as many as 30 people in here at one time. It is my biggest bane because all that space has to be cleaned!

Next we have the living-room-of-difficult-furniture-placement. Anyone who designs a room with 4 doorways and a hall and staircase in it needs to get a new job! What? Oh, no. We don't have a TV. If we want to watch an occasional (VERY occasional) movie, we pop a DVD into the computer in the dining area.

On the far side of the living room you'll find the girlies' room on the right. Fortunately, it's not too messy. The room was meant to be a den, so there's no closet, but we were able to find them a pretty wardrobe to make up for it. There are bedrooms upstairs, but we started the girls out down here when they were babes (their older siblings were upstairs) and now we just really like having them down here with us.

On the left is our room. It looks stupid with the air mattresses on the floor, but we still haven't gone bed shopping. Besides, they're so comfy! We have our own teeny bathroom here with the midget shower. The stall is normal sized, but the shower fixture was installed at 5'6" above the floor. Mulletman, who is 6'2" rarely uses THIS shower!

Now we go back out through the living room and take a right. This is the blue phrog bathroom. It has 70's vintage blue fixtures, a double sink and dozens of blue phrogs everywhere. I even have blue phrog shower curtain rings!!

Ok, Out the bathroom door, if we take a right and go through this door we'll end up in the folks' apartment. I think they're busy staring at the weather channel right now and placing bets on whether or not the power is going to go out, so we'll let them be. I'll take some food over to them later.

Instead, let's head up the stairs. Now that Funsocksgirl and Bonehead have grown up and moved out, this whole space is basically fluff. Hang a left here at the top and you'll come into what used to be a GIGANTIC closet. It is now our "library" (Translation: I keep all our lit books and Bible study books and extra schoolbooks up here because Mulletman hates fiction and because he thinks paperbacks are ugly.). It is also home to the 200 pound salvage desk where I file our important papers and do my scrapbooking. Mulletman got that desk out of the trash at the hospital where he works and we painted it. It's so big and heavy...I can't remember for the life of me how he got it home!

See that awesome brown swivel rocker? I love that chair! It's so comfy and secluded up here. It's my sneak-away-to-pray-or-be-alone-chair.

Ok, next room. This very large bedroom is our music room. It is home to 3 guitars, a wonderful digital piano, 1 bass guitar, a plethora of hand-held percussion intruments, a gorgeous drum-set, several amps and a stereo. Hey! Don't touch that!

Ahem...Let's move on the last room. This used to be Bonehead's room; Now it's the guestroom and my sewing space. It's small, but architecturally interesting, don't you agree? We keep several Christian biographies and devotionals books in here for our guests to enjoy when they're visiting. From the looks of that snowfall out there, you may be coming back to this room to camp for a while!

In fact, why don't you just plan on staying overnight. Heck, why don't you just stay all week and we'll party together like they used to do in the Bible. I mean what's up with Americans and their boring 2 hour parties, anyway? In the Bible they had week-long celebrations. I've got plenty of virtual food and beds and fun ideas.

So let's give it a try, shall we?

Valentine's Day Homeschool Style

I don't know what you did for Valentine's Day, but the Groovy household spent the whole day celebrating. We started out with heart-shaped pancakes. Yum!

Then we opened gifts and cards and enjoyed our flowers from Daddy. We gave Daddy a $1 Andy Griffith dvd and some very odd flavored gum (spearmint melon and peppermint berry); He's a gumaholic!

Since it was a school day, Girly-Girl and Silly-Head had some worksheets to do, but they were all about Valentine's Day!

For lunch, Mulletman and the girls had heart-shaped sandwiches. I hate to waste food, so I ate all the scraps!

Then the girls donned their aprons and got very busy (and very messy!) making chocolate cookies from a Martha Stewart recipe that Girly-Girl found in a forgotten kid's magazine. "Oh please Mom, " she begged, "Can we make these for Valentine's Day?" How could I say no? They were WAY too sweet, but the girls had a great time making them!

We also made mobiles to display the Valentine's the girls got at the homeschool Valentine Party on Tuesday.

For supper? Heart-shaped pizzas, of course!

After supper, we all headed over to Gram and Gramp's attached apartment (They are away on the tail end of a road trip to Florida) and watched several Andy Griffith episodes on their huge tv. It was a cozy ending to a wonderful day.

******************************

Addendum: Although our day WAS quite nice, it is neverless true that Mulletman was having an "off" day. He participated and cheered in all the right places, but he wasn't really feeling up to snuff. This may have been due to the fact that we had an actual blizzard all day and he had to snow-blow vast mountains of the powdery stuff in wildly gusting winds. At any rate, he wasn't terribly romantic. I got some Walmart flowers to share with the girls and an obligatory hug. That was about it.

BUT, he more than made up for it with one crazy move. On Thursday, after I worked out I headed into the bathroom to soak in the tub. He immediately popped in after me.

"Did you notice???" he asked excitedly. "I did it just for you!"

"Notice what?"

He pointed to this:

That's a rose - a toilet paper rose. Well, it is if you look at it through the eyes of love. A coupla years ago we stayed at a Bed & Breakfast and I was totally awed by their ellegant toilet paper presentation. This was his sweet attempt to recreate the fun of that moment.

Ya know what? It worked!
