Obnoxious Morning People

also known as O.M.P.s.

Good Morning | Forward this Picture

They're out there. I'll even bet some of you IS one. You know the kind of person I'm talking about:

*He's up before dawn and his day is half over before you've rolled out of bed for your first cup of coffee.

*She calls you before 7am "just to chat".

*He wakes you up out of a sound sleep to marvel at some mysterious occurance called "the sunrise".

*She is cheerful and bouncy and talkative before you've even figured out what day it is!

The Bible has this to say about O.M.P.s:
He who blesses a friend with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be reckoned a curse to him. (Proverbs 27:14)

This is what Groovy says about O.M.P.s:

Morning Rage

the sunrise sets the stage
for a peaceful day to start
the bracing scent of coffee
cheers the newly woken heart

the morning is a time
for quiet solitude
the hour for prayer and meditation
for a thoughtful attitude

unrushed, untarnished
beginning life anew
with a gentle, quiet fervor
nothing to disturb you

until she calls,
the phone it rings
glaring, blaring
through your morning

she quips, "hello"
and jibbers away
words upon words
crashing to your brain

and you grimace
and you glare
and you wish she wasn't there.
it's too early for her cheerful chatter
you're too tired for much else to matter

so you grunt
so you growl
so you rage
and so you scowl
but she doesn't notice

she's an obnoxious morning person…

One of the greatest skills I've mastered is letting the phone rign when it's not convenient to answer it (I'm also a big fan of Caller ID, something I once saw as totally unnecessary).

HEY... I resemble that remark. You could get even and call me at 8:30 p.m. when I'm already in bed! *G*

Sorry, but I'm one of those early, right at it, morning people!!! I'm also the one falling asleep or yawning my head off at 9 - 9:30 every evening :o)

I'm up at 6am (5am on Sundays), but I'm not really "friendly" until after 8am.

By the way, you can't call here after 9pm either. Mulletman and I are both in bed by 9 or 9:30!

And, oh, I DO use the answering machine.

I've always pictured you as already talking and laughing inappropriately before you wake up...

Anyway Groovy, the link below follows on from a comment you left me;

I remember the day after my dad retired. He took his alarm clock out in the country, set it up on a fence post and blasted it to smithereens with a 12-gauge shotgun. I never saw him look so young and alert.

I'm looking forward to that day myself. I don't like getting up early, but I do enjoy being outside as early as possible. Go figure.

Welcome Paul!

Thanks for your "pitti"!

I have to keep my alarm clock across the room so that I actually have to get out of bed to shut it off. Maybe I'd be more cheerful in the morning if I just used the shotgun on it!

Bear. Darling. Shut up!

Love, love your poem... :D

I am SO NOT a morning person. At least you're up early...I. am. not.

My husband, on the other hand, is up early for work and gone for hours before the girls and I sleepily crawl out of our cocoons. My youngest, in particular, takes after me alot in not being a morning person. If it were allowed, she'd be wanting her own cup of coffee too! ;)

We're all early risers around here, but pretty quiet about it; not much chatter until we get our coffee. No matter how early I get up, though, my husband has always been up for hours before me. Why, then, am I the one who always makes the coffee?
