On Your Mark, Get Set, Wriiiiiiiiiiiiite!

A Day Off! Woot! Groovy has a day off!

No obligations, No plans, No cleaning, No phone calls, No school.

Groovy must use this time wisely. Therefore, the bulk of this day will be used to prepare for NaNoWriMo and to research our local candidates so's I'm ready to vote on Tuesday.

NaNoWriMo starts this Monday. I have labeled myself a "rebel" because I am not going to use the month of November to start a new work. Instead, I am going to finish (God willing) Through the Molasses Swamp, a Christian young adult novel I started 3 years ago in my NaNo debut.

The goal? 50,000 words in 30 days. I'm not sure how much I will be here on the blog or on the ever time-sucking FaceBook, but do check in because I may need your help if I get stuck! If I finish Molasses Swamp and still have month and words left over, I will then apply them to moving my other well begun, but never finished Linear Equation down the road.

Groovy actually has goals. Aren't you proud?

And here's the kicker. I've participated in NaNoWriMo twice before in 2007 and 2008 and I've never reached 50,000 words. Not even by using verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long chapter titles. ;)

So this year there's an added incentive: NO CHOCOLATE IN ANY FORM UNTIL I TYPE 50,000 WORDS ON MOLASSES SWAMP (and/or Linear Equation, if necessary).

Drastic, I know, but necessary. Groovy does not finish well without strong motivators!!

Today I'll be assembling a notebook with character sketches and plot blurbs and anything that will help me keep things moving quickly as I write. I'll also be perusing a writing book that I've heard much praise for of late: The Way of the Cheetah by Lynn Viehl. You can find a free download for it at Paperback Writer.

And now, I'm off to actually do some work. FUN work! (And to eat some chocolate BECAUSE IT'S NOT NOVEMBER YET!)

Wow, no chocolate until it's done... That is a huge incentive!!! This is my first official, so I'm not going to torture myself like that, but I hope to be celebrating with you at the finish line! :)

That's a lot of words - here's knowing you can do it! I remember when you started this project. What a lot of water under the proverbial bridge!
