Aha!

Aha! Now Groovy knows the secret of how to increase her blog traffic: Present a mystery!

This could become quite a fun feature because I have numerous "mystery" items around my house. For over a decade now, we've had an ongoing game with Gram and Gramp. Each year, usually for Christmas, we try to give each other mystery gifts. The guessing begins as soon as it's unwrapped and the giver thereof just smiles and says, "Nope, that ain't it!" until we all go ape and start throwing food at the offender and forcing them to eat oven-roasted brussel sprouts and hiding their Christmas candy until they spill the beans. (Jelly beans?)

OK, ok....so we don't actually start throwing food. It sounded more exciting than saying "we guess for several days and then they tell us what it is."

Soon, you will be meeting some of these gifts. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

And just what was that gizmo in my last post?

It was a fish scaler (or a very painful murder weapon!). At least that's the story from Mr. Tom. Knowing our penchant for myterious items, his wife gave it to us two years ago and it's been sitting in my kitchen drawer ever since because we had NO CLUE what it was.

Periodically I pull it out and shove it front of an unsuspecting visitor alongside their coffee and demand, "You know what this is?"

For some reason, my guests never seem to stay for very long.

Anyhoo, a coupla weeks ago we had Tom and Mammy over here for Bible study and I shoved it in front of Tom. He said, "Hey, cool fish-scaler. I have one just like that out at our camp."

AHA!

I wonder if he realizes that the one in my drawer may very well BE the one from his camp? :>O

The American Lung Association needs your money. Really. They do.

I am one of 20.5 million Americans who suffer from asthma. Fortunately my case is mild, but most asthmatics are not as lucky. In 2004, approximately 8 million adults 4 million children under 18 had an asthma attack. The previous year over 4,000 people DIED from asthma attacks! (stats from lungusa.org)

I want to be a part of the solution. That's why I'm trying to raise money for them via the Trek Across Maine.

I have a blog about it now - see it in my side bar?

And you can donate online by clicking the donation links on the sidebar.

I've been tagged by Desperate Writer to tell you 8 excitingly random facts about moi.

Directions - POST RULES…

1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Eight Random Things About Me

1. I am a natural brunette (with silver highlights!). I did go through a spell of dying my hair to cover the grey, but I'm over that now. Mulletman likes "natural" and I'm finally comfortable with natural, so natural it is.

2. I am absolutely miserable being barefoot. Just 10 minutes of waddling around barefoot will result in knee, hip, and back pain. In fact, I wear shoes and orthotics almost all the time -even with my jammies!. I had a foot injury many moons ago and have worn the orthotics ever since. I love the comfy support, but it does make finding dressier footwear a real headache.

3. I am a scientist at heart and love to try experiments, capture cool insects for observation, breed rodents (rats are THE coolest!), identify wild flowers and fungus, and/or read all those stupid signs on the nature trails. In spite of this interest and study, I still can't tell an oak from a maple, which makes for some lousy tasting syrup.

4. Speaking of rats....When we had a rat I used to LOVE it when sales people or J.W.s came to the door because I could cheerfully answer the door with Smokey or CC on my shoulder. It usually made for VERY short visits. One lady actually screamed and jumped backwards down all our stone steps. It was awesome!

It wasn't so great when I had Ladies' Bible Study at my house. I had move all my critters into another another room - completely out of sight - or a couple of the gals wouldn't even come through the door!

5. I am not a morning person. Let me clarify that. I can get up early (6am IS early!), but I cannot be conversant until after 8am and 2 cups of coffee. I am also not a night owl. Mm and I are usually in bed and asleep WELL before 10pm. In fact, if all the stuff I've been reading about how important sleep is for health is true, then Mm and I should live to be 150!

6. I am a recycling fanatic. We recycle and compost and redeem to the point that we, as a busy family of 4, usually only have one kitchen-sized bag of trash per week.

7. I am addicted to blogging. (Like you didn't already know that!) I am also addicted to Squidoo and the forum on Writersweekly.com .

8. I like quiet, get-away-by-yourself sports like biking, kayaking, and hiking. Even though I can talk a social blue-streak in a crowd, even though I am an attention magnet and a bouyant clown/ham, I truly prefer solitude.

OK...so now it's tagging time: I pick:

YOU!!!

(I know - that is SO cheating, but it is also SO time for me to start school with the girlies!)

A fish scaler....well I'll be!! Never would have guessed that unless I was a fisherman! lol Sounds like a lot of fun, having a mystery item to guess at! Bring it on...maybe there will be one item I'll actually know what it is! lol

Glad to meet another rat fan... I love them. DH won't let me keep a rodent, though, so no rats until he's gone (we've decided he goes first , LOL). I may be seventy-five when I get my next rat, but get one I will. They are awesome pets.

I'm a total early bird, but I'm in bed by 9 p.m. so I get *mostly* enough sleep.

You already saw my answers from last week, so HA! can't tag me.

:-)

"I still can't tell an oak from a maple, which makes for some lousy tasting syrup." You're hilarious as usual, both on your blog and commenting on my blog. It would be great to hang with you.

I think a weekly "Mystery Object" would be a highly edifying feature to contribute to the blogosphere. At least, I've been edified this week. When you buy your fish already boned, skinned, and fileted, you don't have the opportunity to learn about tools like this! I'm looking forward to your next mystery.

I've been tagged to do 7 things and to do 8 things. I think I'll have to do them together, because I don't think I can come up with 15!
