Scout lost two buddies in Iraq this past February. As you gather 'round the grill this weekend, remember those who have sacrificed their lives and/or health for your freedom:
Groovy, I'm so sorry about the deaths of your son's friends. Being far away I forgot that this weekend in America is Memorial Day. My father recieved a purple heart in the Korean War. I hope someone passes by his grave so many thousand of kilometres away from me and remembers him for a moment.
My DH fought in Desert Storm, and I mentioned this post to him. I've seen him cry three times in fifteen years: at our wedding, when our daughter was born and when our darling dog died.
Now, I have to add number four. Tell Scout we're praying for him.
I cannot really understand what it must be like for Scout. I'm so sorry, for him and their families.
Most of us don't really much think about the cost of peace. Fort Jackson is here in my town, and I try to thank the soldiers when it doesn't seem too odd to do so.
Please tell Scout thanks from all of us. And thanks to you for raising him right!

Thank you for these reminders.
Those cartoons are very true. Many people seem to think memorial weekend is just a 3 day holiday or an excuse for a party.
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of those brave young men. My heart goes out to their family and friends.

Thanks, folks.
Marianne, I cried when I read that your husband cried. Scout has "shaken it off", but I'm SURE it affects him deeply.
Amen.
