Oh noooooooooooooooo! I have a friend whose daughter is 14 and she's had lice for over a year now...no matter how many treatments she gets, they just keep coming back! That's one thing I was lucky with, my boys never got lice throughout school...my mom said I had it once when I was 6 years old. Bleck! Anyway, hope the treatments work!! xox

Ugh! The chemical treatments they have out there are starting to not work any more. The little beasts are becoming resistant to them.

Mayo works (the cheap, high-fat kind) but it takes a long time. One of the best methods I used was heat. Wash their hair (helps loosen and get ride of the active adults), then use a blow dryer (being careful not to burn the scalp). Then use the mayo to REALLY coat the hair (I mean, use almost an entire jar on each person), wrap the gooey mess in plastic wrap, take a towel out of the drier (while it's still really warm) and leave it there for three hours.

Comb with a REALLY good nit comb (Licemeister is my favorite), wash, dry, and comb again.

Stuffed animals that aren't heat sensitive can be put in the drier for 30 minutes, others will have to go in plastic bags for a month. Vacuum, wash, and check every day for at least a week to make sure no nasty nit survived the assault.

At my school, we had a parent use kerosene (ACK! NOOOO!) and a couple others just shaved their daughters' heads. Not nice.

They don't jump, but they do crawl and cling.

You have my sympathy. (They used to totally freak me out, but after working in an environment where it was pretty much commonplace, I got over my squeemishness.)

Oh, and tea tree oil, lavender oil, and, ummmm, shoot, I can't remember the others, they're all wonderful at repelling the little buggers. (I'm thinking lavender would probably be more popular with the girlies. Tea tree is kind of strong-smelling) Use a few drops in the rinse water when you wash their hair.

Sorry for the long post (especially if you already knew this stuff).

Ah Ms. Karen. I love you!

We've done the commercial OTC shampoo and we have combed, combed, COMBED wih that nit comb. In one week we'll do the shampoo again (as directed) In the meantime, I am firmly convinced that I can still feel them crawling - yes, I also have an infestation; me and Silly-Head the snuggler - so we've done a two hour olive oil treatment, a vinegar rinse and lots more nit combing.

I have declared war on lice and they WILL NOT survive. The goal is to completely irradicate them before I fly to SC to move my mom.

I think tonight will be mayo night!
