Random Ruminations

First of all, we went to 4-H today, so I was sure to get some pics of Silly-Head with her new charge, Midnight Eclipse. Isn't she a beauty? It was a little hotter day than we're used to, so the kids (human ones) were a bit wilted!

Naturally justice and sibling equality demand that if I post photos of Silly-Head and Midnight, I must also post photos of Girly-Girl and Emma so you can exclaim over how she has grown (Emma, that is. Girly-Girl is no bigger than she was in the last pics!)

School Dilemmas Well, I bought all three volumes of KONOS. The seller shipped them to me and they fell out of the box and it was delivered to me empty. Not a happy story!

Then the P.O. in Texas found most of the books, but we're still missing the timeline figures. I now have the 3 main volumes, the timeline wall poster and 2 extra books that she threw in. We're still hoping the timeline dudes show up...somewhere.

In the meantime, I'm loving these books. I am SO a unit study kind of gal. I used KONOS Vol. 1 and part of 2 with the older two kiddos and it was so much fun. The only glitch this time is that I am older now. Older and slower. Older and slower and WAY more laid back. These are fine traits when dealing with spilt milk. They are not, however, a catalyst for accomplishment.

To use KONOS I am going to have to get off my ever widening tushy and tackle 2 of my least favorite things: scheduling and (gulp) discipline.

Yep. Me and planning will be A-OK. Me and follow-thru...that remains to be seen!

Oh wait, that's the discipline part. Self-discipline is a fruit (or part of THE fruit, depending on your doctrinal pickiness level) of God's Spirit. If I abide in Him, I'll do fine. Right? (Please say, "RIGHT!")

Schedules aren't quite so bad if you give it that lovely British pronounciation of "Sheh-dyule". It sounds almost tasty thataway! The hard part is that I hate being boxed into a timeframe. Oh well, such is life. I'll get used to it. If I don't, we'll never get past our first unit! I will also never exercise AND my house will never get clean.

So, let's see:

4am Get-up and pray

4:05am Go back to sleep (after getting up to pee) because real people do NOT get up at 4am (unless they are my Mother!)

6am Struggle out of bed

Somewhere between 6 and 7:30 pray, read Bible, drink lots of coffee, check blogs...

NO, You will not check blogs or Squidoo in the morning. Blogs are for AFTER your work is done!
(Grumble, grumble, grumble)

Um, get dressed, etc., lay out school materials/books and go over lesson plan. (I WILL have a lesson plan. If I put it in bold caps like that it's just bound to happen!)

7:30 awaken the sleeping beauties so they can do chores and get ready for the day

9am start school
-Memory Verses
-Piano
-Language arts
-Math

Then a play break while Mom, ever that bastion of virtuous acheivement, works-out and showers. Groovy mom used to be able to get up at 6am and work-out, but now she can't even see until 7:30am. This does make Bible reading a challenge, but she manages!)

12:00 lunch

12:30 until whenever
-Reading and scheduled KONOS activities

Whenever - Bedtime
-Do all the other stuff I didn't do yet.

Sheesh. That was EASY! Painless too! And to think I was all worked up about this sheh-dyule thing.

Now all I have to do is figure out when to clean the house, practice my bass, shop, 4-H, swimming, homeschool group, blog, scrapbook, cook, read, and sleep...

Trekki News

We'll be heading off to the Trek on Thursday. I was just informed that I should wear a costume to make the bikers smile. I'm thinking Pirate. AAaaaaaaar. I can direct those scurvy dogs to the port with me saber!!!

Then again, I REALLY need to wear a hat for sun protection and my black one is way too hot.

Any ideas?

###############################################################################

Fear not, I have not forgotten my assignments.

I will tackle them with all gusto after the Trek.

I PROMISE!!!

###############################################################################

Got this meme idea from Sprittibee.

161 & 5 Book Meme
Rules:

1. Grab the book closest to you
2. Open it to page 161
3. Find the fifth full sentence
4. Post the text of the sentence to your blog
5. Don't search around for the coolest book you have, use the one that is really next to you.
6. Tag five people to do this meme.

OK

1. It's Breath Prayers for Mothers (Which I am considering giving away...)
2. It ends on page 159

Uh-Oh, Try again.

1. Ok. This one is a children's workbook.
2. page 161. Got it.
3. It only has 4 full sentences.

Uh-oh, Try AGAIN!

1. Amy Carmichael: Rescuer of Precious Gems (Benge)
2. Page 161. So far, so good.
3. Sentence #5: "Usually they were given to the temple by their parents to gain favor with the Hindu gods."
4. Done.
5. I was good! (as evidenced by the first two meme duds!)
6. I tag anyone who wants to give it a shot.

Hey... HEY! I get up at 4 a.m. Does this mean I'm not a real person?

And, lovely goats -- and girls, of course. I laughed at G-g in her skirt. My DD is the same way -- we did heavy gardening this weekend and she wore a dress.

Nifty meme. I'll have to steal it. Good luck with KONOS. I discovered that I AM NOT a unit study girl. We use Abeka.

YOu just crack me up. Cutie girls and other "kids"! Schedule sounds pretty do-able, but very full. Except for the last sentence or two!

Send me your e-mail address, please, by clicking onto my e-mail on my sidebar. Okay? I want to ask you some stuff.

Hmmm. It's disappeared! I must get to my techy daughter who maintains my blog for me and see what happened. It used to be there!

Pictures of the girls and the goats are so cute. You can just see the joy in their faces (the girls not the goats!!).

Hope you get all you need to get done. I know it's a constant battle at this point in your lives.

Groovy Lady!

You crack me up....daily, I leave your site with a smile that lasts all day!

I looked on your blog for your email...can't seem to find it (maybe it's because I DID get up at 4:00 a.m for the last two days!)
I would like to use some material from your blog post (http://groovybell.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html) on tomorrows post. Our church is doing a series on Prodigals....God Cares. I have a three part series that directs the online readers to my blog--whereby I am reposting my series on Collateral Damage. Dawn directed me to your May 17th post and it is just great! Great! Great! I'd like to mention it and link for those who are networking from the LifeLine God Cares Series. (you can email me at DV4242atAOLdotcom). THANKS!

Diane

Thanks for the belly laughs today! Your little ones are dolls and the goats ain't too bed looking either. I love "MIDNIGHT'S" name!!!

Good luck with the shehdyuling! But the discipline is my weak point as I am still homeschooling one very sweet kid! He'll be starting 4th grade! I never tried KONOS but always enjoyed reading about it. I never was courageous enough to jump in! God bless you Groovy on your trek Thursday. I'm sure you will make it fun for all involved!

Great pictures! Gorgeous girls & lovely goats, too!

I am so with you on scheduling -- trying to work it all in and still shop for groceries, wash the clothes, vacuum the floors (at least once in a while), and maybe sleep makes me hyperventilate.

What I need is a day that feels like the equivalent of that bag Mary Poppins carried: it looked like a bag, felt like a bag, but contained so much more than a bag could possibly carry.

Sigh. I just try to do what is necessary at any given moment and hope that is enough.

Getting curriculum materials is my favorite part of homeschooling! I love seeing the year ahead in a box -- I hope everything you want comes in soon!

Too bad she couldn't take home that goat for a pet! They look like they're best friends!

A girl and her goat. Priceless photos!

This is the longest post from you I've ever seen! I used to get up and work out early, too, but now I need my sleep. Zzzz...
