Here are the answers to yesterday's Party Games. If you haven't played yet, then scroll down to read that post BEFORE you read these highly revealing solutions and ruin your day.

The Math Game: "An iron bar weighs 40 pounds. Into what 4 weights must I break this bar to enable me, with the aid of these 4 pieces, to weigh 1,2,3,4,5, etc. pounds all the way up to 40 pounds, on a balance. I may either add to or subtract from, but I must be able to produce all the weights from 1 pound to 40."

Solution? 1, 3, 8, and 27 pounds

The Word Game:

1. devoid of, barren = MT

2. disintigrate = DK

3. a girl's name = KT

4. of whatever quantity = NE

5. prior to = B4

6. a girl friend = QT (I know, that one's a stretch!)

7. a fabric = PK (never heard of it!)

8. an electrical unit = OM

9. a metal = IN (As a chemistry teacher, I take exception to this one. An "Ion" is an electrically charged particle, not a metal. If they were hinting at Iron, they were pronouncing it with a truly bad accent!)

10. to lead in a particular field = XL
