Tidbits

I find it disconcerting that my husband's ear wax removal drops and my eye drops are in almost identical bottles.

*************
Earlier this week, Silly-Head was wrestling with her numbers while doing math. She's a bit dyslexic and was writing EVERYTHING backwards and upside down. After I had her rewrite all her work (six whole problems - she's in kindergarten), she grabbed her new Magnadoodle and began to write intently and secretly.

Suddenly she looked up, "What says 'k'?"

"It depends on the word," I responded, "It could be C or K. What's the word?"

"School," she growled.

"Ah, that's a tricky one. It's CH." I then helped her finish spelling the word. When she was finished writing she stomped over to me and handed me the Magnadoodle. It said:

"I HAT SCHOOL!"

Unfortunately, it looks like she'll be doing her lessons for quite a while yet!

**************
I just got my first check from Readers' Digest for $100!!!!!!!!!!!! I sent them a filler blurb about a truly inane headline in our local paper. If you want to see it, it's in the current edition of the magazine.

**************
Mulletman has been taking the girlies swimming at the indoor therapy pool at the Boys and Girls club. They've been going 2-3 days a week for the past three weeks. In that time they've gone from being fearful of the water to swimming across the pool (the short way) underwater! He's done a great job with them.

**************
Bonehead has decided to enlist in the Army. He should be official within the next three weeks.

**************
We saw the first five goat kids (a set of twins and a set of triplets) on Thursday. They're SO cute. The girlies don't like crowds, so I thought it would be best to take them to see the babies before we went to 4-H today. 4-H is fun, but it's also chaotic. Today we'll be playing "Goat Jeopardy" and shaving udders.

I'm glad I don't have to shave my udders!

**************
Spring is coming. I know this because the seed companies have been sending me catalogs. I never mail order seeds, I buy them locally, but I DO love to drool through those catalogs!

**************
Buying bathing suits for the girlies is tough. Girly-Girl is quite thin (OK, skinny) and long-bodied. If I find a suit that fits her girth, it barely covers her chest. If I get a suit that covers her as it should, then we could fit two of her in it. Usually it's so loose that I'd have to alter it.

Girly-Girl's suit from last year is desparately in need of replacement, so I've got to get on the ball...

Silly-head is plump...this actually makes her easier to fit.

**************
I made lemon tarts and apple turnovers yesterday. Girly-Girl came into the kitchen all wide-eyed, "Oooo, what're you making and who's it for?"

I bake alot, but the food is usually for someone else's party or part of a meal for someone going through a tough time.

When I told her that all those treats were for us, she gasped. "Those are for US? Oh Mommy, You are the BEST Mom there is!"

Wow...so many scrumptious tidbits here I don't know what to comment on first!
Congrats on the Readers Digest entry! You certainly have the talent to write an article for them, too!

That magnadoodle episode made me giggle...I love it! We had a bit of a problem with 7 yr old's school work yesterday, too. I think Mommy here was ready to write "I Hat School" on my old etch-a-sketch for a minute there! ;)

I'll be praying for your son as he starts this new life...and for healing for his marriage, too.

Blessings!

Wow! I've been sending RD stuff since I was 12, and I've never gotten a single bite! How long before you got a response from them? I mean, from the time you sent it in to the time you got your check?

But dang. Having a kid in Iraq or Afghanistan is scary.

Hmmm. I probably sent this particular blurb in about 8 months ago. But I've sent in over a dozen in the past year and this was my only hit. I'm happy, but I'd be a wee bit more thrilled if it was one of the life stories that I actually wrote. Oh well, it's a start - and it's several meals where I don't have to cook!

I just love this kind of post, all kinds of newsy bits and pieces:-) Woohoo congrats on getting something in RD and getting paid for it!! Are you talking about the February issue? I have it so what am I looking for?

Silly Head better start liking school soon cuz she's got a longggg way to go! lol All I can say is that I'm so glad I'm no longer having to go through that! hehe

I can just imagine how worried you'll be if Bonehead ever gets sent overseas...it has to be one of the hardest things to go through. All the best to him, though!!
